Team DSU Bur’raq Unveils Bur’raq16
The unveiling ceremony of Team DSU Bur’raq’s Formula Student Race Car called “Bur’raq16” was held on October 1, 2016. With the unveiling of this car, DHA Suffa University (DSU) has joined the ranks of accomplished engineering universities that have had the honour of representing Pakistan in internationally-recognized 'Formula Student Race Car' competitions.
Lecturer Hamza Shams, the team’s faculty advisor and pioneer of the Formula Student culture in DSU, spoke on the occasion and shared his thoughts about his long-term affiliation with Formula Student events. He started his Formula journey as a member of NUST’s Formula Student team that participated in Formula Student UK 2013 under the able leadership of Capt. Nadeem Ahmed (Shaheed) of Pakistan Navy. The perseverance and vision of Mr. Hamza Shams to transfer the Formula Student culture into his students led to the formation of Team DSU Bur’raq.
Team DSU Bur’raq, consisting of twenty aspiring Mechanical Engineering students of DSU and led by Syed Zabrain Arshad, developed a formula-style race car that took a complete year of designing, assembling, manufacturing and marketing. The car is now track-ready to represent Pakistan in the prestigious 'Formula Student Australasia 2016' competition, to be held in Australia from December 8 to 11, 2016. DSU will be one of thirty-seven participating universities and the first and only university from Pakistan to race on Australian soil.
The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Rear Admiral (R) Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Hussain, TI(M), SI(M), Vice Chancellor, DSU congratulated the team on this exceptional achievement and appreciated the engineering talents of team members. The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Johar Khurshid Farooqi, Dean, Engineering and Applied Sciences, DSU, Asstt Prof. Shoib Ahmed, Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering, DSU and parents of the team members.
