Mechanical Engineering Students of DHA Suffa University Excel at Green Innovation Competition 2017
Under the supervision of Engr. Mustafa Mogri, students of Mechanical Engineering Department presented a prototype of the Eco-Building System (EBS V.01) at the Green Innovation Competition 2017, held by ASHRAE-PNEC at NUST-PNEC on February 25, 2017. DSU students were awarded the runners-up cash prize of Rs. 10,000. They also received praise from industry leaders in automation and were invited to develop similar prototypes as part of a sponsored project.
EBS V.01 is the first prototype that can be retrofitted into an existing conventional building and can provide automation, without the need of incorporating a Building Automation System (BAS). A micro-controller was designed to smartly modulate the use of energy-consuming devices based on the occupancy and energy requirement of the space. The portable device is designed to be smart so that it can simply be put in a room with single or multiple HVAC units and can provide immediate smart control of energy-use of the room, including air-conditioning, artificial lighting and fresh air control.
