Department Mission

"To provide students with engineering knowledge and skills by offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in mechanical engineering of high international standard in a conducive environment that promotes active learning and research."

The faculty of mechanical engineering boasts of an accomplished and highly qualified pool of scholars, researchers and practical engineers. The faculty brings together a world of experience from Europe, North America, Middle and South East Asia enabling the latest knowledge and expertise to be available to students of the Mechanical Engineering Department at DSU. Moreover, active partnerships and collaborations of our faculty members with leading research and development institutions ensures that our students are engaged in projects that stand parallel to the cutting-edge research around the world.

Approvals and Accreditation Status

All Mechanical Engineering programs at DSU are approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the BE (Mechanical) program is fully-accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

Mechanical Engineering Laboratories

DSU Mechanical Engineering Laboratories are designed to supplement the Mechanical Engineering Degree Programs comprehensively. The ME laboratories are designed to provide hands-on experience and practical application to classroom theory using modern state-of-the-art equipment. An additional feature is the use of software with high-speed computers to design and verify advanced concepts of engineering like Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Structural Analysis, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Technologies, CNC Processes, Optimization of Processes, Control Systems, Vibrations and Robotics. The list of laboratories is as follows, where the list of available equipment can be viewed by clicking on the respective list item.

Academic and Research Collaborations

DSU is actively pursuing collaboration with top-ranking national and foreign universities and research organizations in academics and research. Under such arrangements the students besides internships and research collaboration will also be facilitated to study partly at the collaborating foreign universities and get dual degrees as per the terms of agreement and applicable conditions. Details of current academic and research collaborations can be viewed here.

Careers, Placements and Industrial Liaison

DSU takes pride in providing the best and most ideal placement and internship opportunities to its students through a dedicated network of departmental Industrial Liaison Officers (ILOs) working closely in cooperation with Career Services and Corporate Relations (CS&CR) Directorate at DSU. The CS&CR Directorate works with dedication and utmost professionalism to ensure students’ placement in prestigious companies of the country. Industrial visits are arranged every semester starting from the third year of BE (Mechanical) program with the objective to acquaint them with the national industrial practices. The visits closely relate to and provide support to the curriculum requirements of the BE (Mechanical) degree program.

Professional Growth

DSU places strong emphasis on the professional growth of its students through a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities under the banner of the student chapters of professional organizations. These include.

  1. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  2. Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
  3. Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

In addition to these, DSU has University-wide student societies where students are encouraged to participate proactively to develop and nurture their soft-skills necessary for the modern-day work environments.

International Projects

Despite being in infancy stages, ME Department in strong congruence to the University’s vision has established and have started participating in international automotive and aerospace student-level competitions, namely:

  • Formula Student (Global)
  • Shell Eco-marathon Asia, Singapore
  • Design, Build and Fly Competition, USA
  • IMechE UAS Challenge, UK

Moreover, DICE Automotive USA has also established a Center of Excellence at DSU, where DSU is collaborating in the development of the chassis and suspension of the first Pakistani designed Small Hatchback Passenger Vehicle.
