DSU hosts National Seminar on Quality Benchmarking for Teaching & Learning in Higher Education

The QEC Department of the University hosted a national seminar on Quality Benchmarking for Teaching & Learning in Higher Education on 8th February 2023. The objective of the seminar was to explore various strategies for setting and measuring the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions. QECs from all over Pakistan participated in this seminar on-campus as well as online. One of the speakers Mr. Imranullah Khan Marwat (Director Quality Assurance, Higher Education Department, KP HEC) joined the seminar online from Peshawar. The keynote talk was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Abdul Wahid Usmani (Director QEC, Jinnah Sindh Medical University).

The seminar commenced with Mr. Marwat’s session focused on best practices of academic administration in teaching and learning. Mr. Marwat discussed the key foundational quality concepts and terminologies that led to an in-depth dialogue on benchmarking for continuous improvement, academic management in higher education institutions in relation to teaching and learning, various modes of assessment, and the challenges faced by higher education institutions with reference to quality assurance.

The second session by Dr. Usmani focused on best practices in quality assurance of teaching and learning at DAIs. Dr. Usmani discussed the core domains of best practices including curriculum, students, faculty, assessment, management, and learning environment and resources. He apprised the participants of various benchmarking tools that can be used by higher education institutions to gauge quality. These included matrix for mapping Program Learning Outcomes, developing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) Learning Outcomes, and Table of Specification. He also discussed the various questions/prompts that higher education institutions should ask themselves in order to assess their quality of teaching and learning.

The seminar was kept interactive and participants were encouraged to ask questions and share feedback regarding best practices of quality assurance being observed at their respective institutions. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks to the participants and guest speakers by the honorable Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Haque. The seminar offered a good networking opportunity to participants over refreshments.

MODE MOBILITY ELECTRIC BIKE

Mode Mobility (Pvt.) Ltd. is an engineering and design startup developing a line of battery-electric scooters as a sustainable solution for urban mobility. The company is in an advanced stage of product development, especially targeting women riders to facilitate them to travel easily from one place to another.

Focus Group session was conducted for DHA Suffa University Students and Staff by Mode Mobility under the management of Industrial Liaison Officer, Engr. Naveed Ahmed Khatri. Interested participants were given a test ride after filing the registration form and feedbacks were taken about the user experience after their ride. This interactive 1-1 session with design team was beneficial for DSU students and staff who use 2-wheeler as their daily mode of commute. Moreover, Mode Mobility team got the opportunity to gain live feedback from prospective customers and their opinion about electric scooters along with the required data collection.

Technical Industry and University Sign Memorandum of Understanding With SITECH

DHA Suffa University and SITECH (Support Industry and Technology) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a partnership for collaboration in the fields of technology development. The MOU signing ceremony was held at DHA Suffa University, Main Campus and was attended by senior officials from both organizations.

Under the terms of the MOU, the industry and the university will work together on projects and initiatives that will benefit students, researchers, and the wider community. This collaboration will allow students to gain hands-on experience in their fields of study, provide opportunities for faculty to collaborate on research projects, and enhance the overall technology landscape of Pakistan.

The MOU also provides a framework for the exchange of knowledge, resources, and expertise between the two organizations. This exchange will facilitate the development of new technologies, support innovation, and contribute to the growth of both organizations.

MOU Signing Ceremony with Karachi Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malir (KWCCI)– 2nd February 2023

DHA Suffa University (DSU) signed an MoU with Karachi Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malir (KWCCI) to promote various avenues of collaboration between the two organizations. Both the organizations agreed to promote women entrepreneurship through various events, seminars, workshops, trainings etc. The MoU will help provide many opportunities for the women entrepreneurs, both at the chamber and DSU, to start, establish and grow their business. Present for the MoU signing ceremony for Karachi Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malir (KWCCI) was Ms Nazli Abid, Chairperson KWCCI. Representing DSU was Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas – Pro-VC, Ms Subeika Rizvi- Chairperson Women Empowerment Society, Ms Saima Sardar- Director SSCC.

CASH DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY OF IGNITE FUNDING ORIC DSU

Cash distribution ceremony of IGNITE Funding ORIC DSU organized the funding award distribution ceremony on Friday 3/feb/23. One of the projects among the 8 successful FYPs was also selected for the national championship. The Pro Vice Chancellor Birg. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas graced the ceremony as the guest of honor and distributed the cheques amongst the winning teams. The ceremony was also attended by the Dean EAS Dr. Ahmad Hussain, HODs and FYP supervisors of winning teams

FIELD TRIP TO PAKISTAN INDUSTRIAL AND TECHNOLOGY PARK (PI&TP)

Students of the Mechanical Engineering Department’s third semester went on a field trip to the Pakistan Industrial and Technology Park (PI&TP) on January 18, 2023. They were joined on the trip by Engr. Hassaan Hussain, Assistant Professor in the ME department. The students took a tour of the PI&TP exhibit area, where they observed a variety of components developed by various organisations. The students also had the opportunity to interact with officers working at the park, and learn about the processes and techniques used in the production of the components.

In conclusion, the field trip to the Pakistan Industrial and Technology Park was a valuable learning experience for the third-semester students of the Mechanical Engineering Department. The students were exposed to the latest technologies and practices used in the industry and had the opportunity to interact with professionals working in the field, which will help in their overall understanding of the subject.
