Industrial trip to Turbomachinery Services (Pvt) Ltd

An industrial trip to Turbomachinery Services (Pvt) Ltd. was arranged for the students of semester VII-A students enrolled in the Maintenance Engineering course (Elective) of the Mechanical Engineering department on Friday, February 04, 2022.  Under the supervision of Engr. Safa Sattar, the students visited Turbomachinery Services where they were able to observe the maintenance services of rotating and static components. Also, understand the practical aspects of concepts studied in the course of Maintenance Engineering. A company representative guided the students through the whole process of vibration monitoring, thermal coating, winding services and dynamic balancing of various components where in, the representatives explained each process in detail, from failure to repair/replacement to its testing and operable condition.

The trip was a great learning opportunity for students as it helped students relate many concepts studied in the classroom to real settings.

Mock interviews Session – January 28th 2022

Under the supervision of Ms. Tehseen Azhar – Director of Alumni Relations and Senior Lecturer (MS), a second Mock Interviews session was organized on Friday, January 28th, 2022, this time exclusively for the students of the Professional Development course (BBA VIII). The panelists for the session were Mr. Naveed Akhtar (CHRP) – Head of HR at Green Crescent Trust, Mr. Nabeel Shaikh – Senior Director & Head of FS at Riyad Capital and Mr. Talha Nisar Khan – Head of HR at IFCONDITION (SMC Private) Limited.

The first panelist Mr. Naveed Akhtar is a Certified Human Resource Professional CHRP with 10+ years of working experience in the HR field. Currently, he is associated with Green Crescent Trust as the Head of HR. Throughout his career, he’s been participating in designing HR Strategies for the Social Development Sector. The second panelist Mr. Nabeel Shaikh is a veteran investment banker, serial entrepreneur, corporate trainer and career coach. He has more than 15 years of global consulting experience, including Big 4 accounting firms, Fintech architecture design and process optimization initiatives. The third panelist Mr. Talha Nisar Khan is a seasoned HR Professional with 11+ years of working experience in the manufacturing and service sectors. Currently, he is associated with IFCONDITION (SMC Private) Limited as the Head of HR.

The objective of these mock interviews was to offer graduating students a simulation of actual job interviews and provide them immediate constructive feedback. The panelists put them in real-life scenarios and ask how they would tackle/resolve those particular issues. Provided a glimpse of what the recruiters look for in a particular candidate of their chosen field, how they can improve their profile to stand out from the crowd and how they can ace the interviews to get their preferred jobs. The session was attended by 23 final year students of the MS Department.

The panelists for the session were Mr. Noman Iqbal – HR Business Partner at Midas Safety and Ms. Arouj Fatima – Lead Recruiter & Sales Manager at Jobee.pk.

Mr. Noman Iqbal is a seasoned HR professional with around 13 years of work experience in Multinational (MNC’s) and National Level Companies (NLC’s) in FMCG, Textile and Pharmaceutical sectors. Currently, he is associated with Midas Safety as an HR Business Partner. Ms. Arouj Fatima is a seasoned professional with around 12 years of diverse work experience in the HR, Sales and Teaching fields. She has a proven track record of serving International & local business Set-ups. Currently, she is working as a Lead Recruiter and Sales Manager at Jobee.pk.

Lecture Series on Personality Grooming

DHA Suffa University believes in importance of Personality Grooming and Character Building of its students besides quality education. In this connection, DSU has introduced a well thought out Lecture Series on Personality Grooming.

As sequel to the lecture series, today, DHA Suffa University had the honor of hosting Pakistan’s leading motivational speaker, Qasim Ali Shah, who shared his inspirational pearls of wisdom on “Successful Life”.

Mr. Qasim Ali Shah urged DSU students to aim high and remain focused on their respective life objectives regardless of the difficulties that they may experience. He also motivated the students to explore their inner selves and choose profession which commensurate with their interests and knack. Discovering one-self gets easy when someone seeks blessings and guidance from Almighty by offering regular Namaz.

The session received an overwhelming response from DSU students and faculty members alike.

The session was opened and concluded by DSU’s Pro Vice Chancellor Brig Prof Dr Ahmed Saeed Minhas, who was instrumental in arranging the session by Mr. Qasim Ali Shah.

 

Session on “How to build a Career in Tech” by Mr. Ahmed Ayub, Co-Founder at Airlift

Google Developer Student Club at DHA Suffa University in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development organized a session on How to build a career in tech specifically for Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Data Science students.

Where the Chief Guest and speaker Ahmed Ayub joined us. The Co-Founder at Airlift, which is a Pakistani-based tech startup operating in logistics and quick commerce. The company was launched in 2019 as a decentralized urban mass transit startup that allowed customers to book fixed-rate rides on buses and vans on their network fleet. In 2020, Airlift diversified into last-mile delivery through Airlift Express, delivering essential households in 30 minutes across nine cities in Pakistan, and has also expanded in South Africa delivering food supplies, households supplies, pharmacy, and more.

On this mission to enable self-empowerment in the region, Airlift raised USD 110m+ in venture financing. The session was focused on helping students understand the journey of a Software engineer in the corporate tech industry vs a startup. The Story of first made in Pakistan tech company airlift was also emphasized proving the khudi philosophy of Iqbal to build our products for ourselves first, so we dont have to import all the goods but become exporters of our tech product to the world, where the session was joined by Faculty Advisor Eram Abbasi and the distinguished Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas where he emphasized skill-based learning to students and become job providers of the future and appreciated the efforts of the core team of GDSC and CEID department for organizing the session.

Session by “The Center for International Strategic Studies Sind (CISSS)”

The Center for International Strategic Studies Sind (CISSS) conducted an outreach session exclusively for the students of International Relations at DHA Suffa University on 20th January, 2022.

Ambassador (R) Qazi Khalilullah (Executive Director) and Mr. Aftab Hussain (Director Research) delivered a talk on Pakistan’s Strategic Program, strategic issues in the region, aims and objectives of CISSS and prospects and opportunities of academic and research collaboration with DSU.

The honorable guests were warmly welcomed by Pro VC Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas, whereas, Dean MSS  Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Program Manager IR Ms. Sidra Ahmed and the esteemed faculty of IR appreciated the initiative taken by CISSS for providing a platform for our students interested in research and policy-making.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas concluded the session with thank you note and expressed his wish for a long term association and collaboration between IR Department and CISSS.

Exchange of shields and refreshment served at the end of the session. Both faculty and students found the talk extremely informative and interesting.
